Write a short essay analyzing how the events in the story reveal a larger theme. Remember to use text from the novel as support. When you have completed your assignment, submit to your teacher. In Chapter 5, Bilbo has the chance to kill Gollum but chooses not to. Then, in one of Tolkien's later books, it happens that—though great kings, brave warriors, and wise wizards are helpless against a terrible evil—Gollum is the only character that can save Middle-earth from destruction.
Compare the examples of the dwarves' and the goblins' prejudices with the effects of Bilbo's choice. What theme do you notice? Support your theme with examples from the text.

Answer 1
Answer: Hobbit is written later as a prequel to the Lord of the Rings series. In LOTR, Gollum is the key in defeating Sauron. Bilbo's choice of not killing Gollum reflects his rejection to prejudices. "He knew, of course, that the riddle-game was sacred and of immense antiquity, and even wicked creatures were afraid to cheat when they played at it. But he felt he could not trust this slimy thing to keep any promise at a pinch. Any excuse would do for him to slide out of it." Even though Bilbo knows Gollum cannot be trusted, he chose to spare him "He must fight. He must stab the foul thing...Gollum had no sword...was miserable, alone, lost. A sudden understanding, a pity mixed with horror, welled up in Bilbo's heart." That is when Bilbo rejects his prejudices and urge to kill Gollum. Dwarves are a good and proud race while golbins are evil and wicked beings. But they both have prejudices of other beings. That has led to their mistrust of Gollum.

Motion sickness comes in many forms, not just seasickness. Ninety percent of the human race is susceptible to motion sickness of one kind or another. Some people become sick when they sit in the backseat of a car, others cannot read or look at a map in any kind of moving vehicle. People get motion sickness on airplanes, motorcycles, amusement park rides, and even on camels! Scientist have learned that motion sicknessoccurs when the brain is trying to make sense of a situation and there are too many conflicting messages. While the eyes are sending one message, the ears are trying to send a message about balance. The skin and bone joints, sensitive to air pressure, send another message. Many people who have experienced violent motion sickness try to avoid travel. But that is not always possible. So travellers should employ some well-known strategies to avoid getting sick. The most useful strategy concerns food : eat a light meal before travelling and bring along a packet of plain soda crackers to snack on regularly. Avoid carbonated bevereges, high-fat food, and spices. Care in choosing the location of your seat is another important strategy. In a car, sit at the front and keep your eyes fixed on the horizon.

People who still got sick after trying these strategies can try medical help. Some rely on over-the counter medications, although some of them can make you sleepy. Others use sipmple ginger capsules to settle their stomach. A large number of travellers use pressure bands on their wrists. It is not clear how these bands work, but they do prevent motion sickness.

What is motion sickness?

Motion sickness can happen when the brain has trouble interpreting messages from the body, ears, and eyes. When there is a lot of movement, whether it be in a car, airplane, boat, or even on an amusement park ride, you could feel queasy, clammy, or sick to the stomach.

Motion sickness is caused by an inconsistency between the signals of the eyes, vestibular system, and the movement sensors in the brain. If the body's sensory organs get mixed messages about how you're moving, they could react anxiously.

If a person have sinus congestion, a sinus infection, an ear infection, or a recent concussion, People may be more prone to motion sickness.

Thus, option B is correct.

Alexi's speech is intended to convince his listeners that he should be elected vice president of his class. Based on the breakdown of the time devoted to his main points, which of the following would fix the imbalance? I. I have a wide range of experience in organizations and student government. 20% II. Previous vice presidents have been less involved in actual change. 15% III. I want to increase the number of student parking spaces and increase funding for campus clubs. 65%

Answers

Answer:

- Increasing the time on spent on points I and II by 15% each and decreasing the time spent on point III by 30%.

Explanation:

Preparation of an effective speech requires arduous efforts and time. Therefore, it requires to devote the time to each point or idea to be presented depending on the knowledge and experience that the speaker possesses about that particular topic or on the basis of the level of significance of the points.

As per the question, Alexi's speech could be balanced by 'increasing the time she spends on point I and II by 15% each and by reducing the excessive time devoted to point III by 30%' as the 'description of experiences and how vice presidents fail to be a part of the real change' in respect to organization and student government must be elaborated more coherently to persuade the readers and therefore, requires more time. While the last point is a mere suggestion or revelation of the purpose which could be managed in lesser time relatively.
